I was growing really antsy about the missing notifications because day after day the tickets were piling up yet the problem didn't seem to get acknowledged anywhere (not in the known issues on the support page, not on [site community profile] dw_maintenance, no replies to those tickets... I even went to check the dreamwidth github issues but crickets there too :C).

Anyway, behold! A few of the (many, many) tickets about notifications were updated with the following:

"Our developers have been looking into this and finally figured out what was going on. There's a fix in, and notifications should start flowing again. I can't say if you'll get the old ones, but new ones should be fine."

I can't wait! Thanks to the "Recent Comments" page which I'm checking first like a kinda inbox, I'm fairly sure I'm not missing anything posted anywhere on my journal. Unfortunately, because I have a couple of active posts at the moment, the "Recently Posted" page isn't as useful to me and if someone replies a couple of weeks later to a comment I left on their journal, which is usually one of Dreamwidth's strengths, I'm unlikely to see it if the notification gets dropped :C

Glad a fix is on the way and hope it's coming to us soon!! To all the chit-chat and associated notifications!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😆 (Yes I'm constantly trying to get my inbox under control but not like this 😱 XD)

That was nice

SF, one of our wildlife profs stops me on the way to lab to tell me our mutual friend PQ was here to do a guest lecture. He was partially the inspiration for Josh in These Haunted Hills PQ was a naturalist in the Hocking Hills (which is how SF knows him) and is part of my steampunk group and also loves ghost hunting and beer making (how I know him) I didn't get to hear the lecture because I had lab but I did get to talk to him about our upcoming Steampunk con in Lousiville.

The cheater finally came to lab pretending like it's all alright. It is not and I do feel a little bad that she doesn't seem to know how much trouble she's in. Ah well.

Any of my British mystery fans know Whistable Pearl? I'm starting it tonight.

My coffee shop has this month a new latter Almond Joy. This one is very good. I'll need to make it myself.

So The Amazing Digital Circus dropped a teaser trailer today for the 9th episode which is the last one and it will also be released in the theater early. this worked out horribly for Hazbin, just saying. I didn't know where to get tickets because I'll be traveling at that time. I dicked around and by the time 3 hours went by Pittsburgh was sold out. However, Huntington barely sold ANY tickets. So yeah I have tickets now.

I did a little writing. This was for [personal profile] spikesgirl58's 6 words challenge. It's a potential chapter in my new novel. It may or may not happen. I'm thinking about it. It has seen zero editing so be warned.

Speaking of warnings, there is a minor mention of drug addiction, also mentioned (in no detail) child sexual abuse and PTSD. Also minor blood, mentions of sex work

Minor update to yesterday's post.

One of those scary buzzy alerts on my phone just now, for the cyclone later today and tomorrow. No change from yesterday, just grumbling that I hate how those alerts startle me and raise my anxiety. Which is the point, I know! The eerie calm has broken - a light wind now and I just looked up and saw sun on the garden, but a sky becoming dark and lowering beyond. Peak cyclone time is the small hours of Sunday morning. Guess I'd better go outside and see what needs tidying away, then find the camping gas box in the garage. I'm very lucky that's all I need to do.

[community profile] thefridayfive questions for 4/10/26

1. What was the last book you read (or are currently reading)?
"First Degree" by David Rosenfelt (part of the Andy Carpenter mystery series)

2. What was the last movie you watched?
Project Hail Mary! Very obsessed with this movie. Going to see it for the fourth time this weekend lol.

3. What television series are you currently watching?
Currently introducing my roommate to Star Trek. We're watching random episodes from TNG, ENT, and TOS. Still trying to convince her to give VOY a chance.

4. What are some of your favorite blogs or communities online?
I have a lot of love for the indie web community. Most of the people I've met in those spaces are very passionate and dedicated to the hobby. It's always fun to see people sharing the new tips/tricks they've figured out.

5. What social media do you belong to and check often?
A few weeks ago, I would have said tumblr. It's the only social media site I belong to. But I've taken a step back from that site for a little while to recharge and get away from some of the fandom toxicity I'd been seeing. So at the moment I don't really have a social media account to check on.

1. Tracking writing-related stuff daily so doesn't work for me and my brain. I track wordcounts only monthly for a reason!! Because I was planning to finish this proofreading within two weeks or so, I thought I would therefore update my little chart thing to track by day rather than by week so the chart looks more interesting. It does look cool! But tracking daily means I read high numbers as "This is what I am capable of" and any day in which I could only manage 15 minutes or so as a failure. May have to weeklify this chart after all.

2. Especially because, while finishing within two weeks would be convenient for a variety of reasons, I'm not sure the proofreading will go as fast as I hoped. My thought were: okay, the story is a third longer than it was last time I proofread it, but only the new stuff might sound janky! Well. It's been over a year since the last time I proofread, so sentences give me different feelings now. The first chapter hadn't changed a ton, maybe 600 new words, but I spent 3h on it anyway. Just like the average last round: proofread 10 chapters in a little under 3 weeks, average time per chapter 2h54. I have 14 chapters now. Grumbles, grumbles.

3. Thinking a lot about what I want to learn next. The last couple of years have been about "process" especially around editing, what works well for me in general, how to actually edit a big project, how to manage my stamina through it. Over the last couple of months, I've been learning about structure, and loving it. Like, there will be more to learn there for sure, but for the time being I need to put into practice my new learning until it comes more naturally. While this is happening, I really want to improve how I write sentences. Line editing, I guess? My writing feels very weak there right now, or not where I'd like it to be. It won't be something I apply on the witch (would require a complete rewrite), but it's something I hope to pay more attention to for the Soul Thief. Reflecting too on how I want to learn and how I could organise myself for it. For example, I got a copy of Le Guin's "Steering the Craft" a while back that sounds like it should fit the bill? But I found it very intimidating, and I'm not good at just doing exercises either. It's easier when learning happens as part of a real story. Anyway, whatever I end up doing next, it seems like I'm moving from a "learning process" to a "learning craft" kinda mood, for the next while!

Autumn garden views, and cyclone prep

I haven't posted garden pics for a while due to autumn untidyness - so far as Auckland has an autumn, which is not very. Still green, just cooler and wetter. Also, I've been busy enjoying and making fanworks and have neglected the garden as it slides inexorably into disrepair. But everything's still green, and I do enjoy looking out at it so I thought you might like some views from my windows and doors. Overcast today so not ideal photography conditions, but as Cyclone Vaianu is bearing down on us in 36 hrs I figured I'd get pics now in case it's chaos by Monday. First time my landlord's property manager has ever emailed tenants with a cyclone warning and info about how to batten down! If I was still in my leaky house in the bush I'd be very worried but this flat's in a safe place - solid construction, high ground but not exposed, no big unsafe trees nearby - so fingers crossed. I'll roust out my camping gas stove and lamp in case of power cuts, and we'll see. Hope you're all safe from extreme weather events!

DM's cancer is back. Family member also diagnosed with cancer. Family fights. I'm very done.

On better news I did catch two more cheaters with the phone ban (either that or they forgot there was a test today because that is the only other explanation from going from 98 % to 50%)

I have a confession. I love Chef Boyardee pizza sauce. I know I know but it's true but I can't find it in the stores any more. I got a flat of it online so I can use my own dough. I thought it was half cans. Let's leave it at I can make a couple dozen pizzas. I am not complaining.

I know that I've put this here before. I could not decide on my story for [community profile] wipbigbang because the AU I REALLY wanted to do...just isn't gelling so maybe this one. I know it's somewhere in my blog but let's make this easy on me and repost it here

We're coming to the time of year when [community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth usually runs, and [personal profile] goodbyebird posted an interest check post in the community to see if folks were interested in doing it and what their plans might be for it.

I will be posting an updated list of my community recs post. The last time I posted it was in January for [community profile] snowflake_challenge, but I've stealth added a few more since then. I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for good communities, so if you know of any and want to see it added to the list, let me know!

I also am giving some thoughts to posting daily during the duration, but I'd need something to post about. I'm considering the following:

1. one creative thing I did today
2. one thing I'm proud of today
3. video game progress? I play video games daily, so that would be something easy I could do

It's the time of night when I turn into a sack of goo, so I have no brain for anything else at the moment. Guess I'd better brush my teeth and go to bed.

So I did go to yoga but...the whole right side of me was asking wtf you doing? Here have some nerve pain. Wanna die in a pretzel I'm a gonna make that happen. In Shavasana (the corpse pose, my best pose) my brain says 'eyes closed? here's some little inner mind's eyes pics for you to enjoy. Oh btw it looks like a tick crawling up your arm or maybe a spider from the ceiling. I opened my eyes trying to find it.

Work is grinding us under. That's all I have to say there.

What I Just Finished Reading:

Edinburgh Twilight - historic mystery, chonkier than I like mysteries to be but I'm enjoying it

The Tale of the Hidden Village - some cozy fantasy/mystery indie I got a couple years back already.

What I am Currently Reading:

The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek - this is painful

Hooked on Murder - I'm going to push only because it fits the terrible Popsugar prompt of granny hobby (god I hate that term with unreasonable hatred) but it seems the detective isn't going to do her job because she wants the cop the amateur sleuth is dating and I hope that isn't what this will be. Then again every woman in the crochet ring suck

Stay for a Spell - cozy fantasy, love this

The Death Card (an arc I just got in the mail)

What I Plan to Read Next: Something that came at the library I don't even remember requesting.

We saw Project Hail Mary last Saturday at the cinema and really enjoyed it. I managed to avoid spoilers (I have the audio book on reserve) and it was particularly lovely in concert with all the delightful Artemis II updates I've been following.

I also listened to the Becky Chambers novella To Be Taught, If Fortunate, which has less people dying in space but otherwise similar themes, and I recommend it. As an audiobook I found it meditative and soothing.

While I was sick the dude and I watched a lot of Classic Doctor Who, mostly Four and Five. It was a lot of fun, and we found we can order the new Blu-Ray sets from the UK cheaper than they're available here (my BIL calls it the Australia Tax). I'm trying to remember if Adric was a fake from Castrovalva, or if he was swapped out later. Anthony Ainley makes a decent Master. *g*

I watched a couple of episodes of Resident Alien with the lad, but I gather that spoilers ) so I don't know if I'll manage to keep watching it.

I read a delightful Star Wars/Indiana Jones mashup and it's the only Sequel I now want!

Want to practice pixel art more, so I was thinking of doing some animated pixel icons for use on Dreamwidth.

To start, I'm thinking a series of pixel books, each with a different theme and animated elements.  I made this first one to test the idea:

I think we're finally past the last frost, which means I might be able to get some strawberries planted this weekend! I don't know how well it'll go - I am notoriously bad at container gardening - but I've wanted to at least try for a few years, so I'm finally giving it a shot. (I know I could have planted them earlier and brought them inside overnight...but I think I would have been just feeding strawberry plants to my cats.)

I just got the first Hades ending, which made me Feel Things. There's still a LOT I have to do in the game, so it'll be a while before I'm done, but awww, Cerberus's favorite person. (Yeah, yeah, family bonding whatever, I'm still looking forward to the next time I make it to the surface and SOMEONE is NOT getting a World's Greatest Dad mug. But we made the dog happy!)

The rapid weather swings this week are absolutely wiping me out, though. I'm still banned from afternoon coffee at work, and it is hard when your face starts hurting halfway through lunch. We went from a high of 75F over the weekend to 40F Monday and yesterday back to a high of 70F today and I am so tired. Pick a temperature!
